Here’s an interesting
contract related to the LCS.
“Lockheed Martin
Corp, Baltimore, Maryland, is being awarded an $8,676,460 modification to
previously awarded basic ordering agreement N00024-12-G-4329 to support fiscal
2016 USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) deployment.”
The announcement didn’t say and I have no idea what specific actions are
included under the contract. I assume
this refers to the LCS’ model of deferred shore maintenance. Still, $8.7M to support a deployment seems
like a lot. I strongly suspect that the
minimal manning model for the LCS is costing more than a regularly manned ship
would.
